You may be a small business owner that's begun to expand your products reach whether locally, regionally, or nationally. Whether its business to business, multi step delivery, or business to consumer you'll need to expand your capabilities. Owning a business or managing one your goal is growing means you need to delegate & allow others to cover down on sections of your business. You must avoid over stretching yourself especially when it comes to getting your products from the factory, airport, garage, big rigs, etc.
Consider the following:
Delivering everything yourself:
Who do you trust more than yourself!? You may know its taken care of but at what cost? Your time, energy, etc.
Hiring a part-time or full-time employee:
This is a great way to delegate your work to another but you need to properly vetted (background check, drug test, professional, etc), need to retain them as well as know what your gonna pay them (minimum wage, higher wage, taxes, etc.) or use an employment agency.
Great way to build your team how you like.
Not to mention buying a vehicle meant for delivery (authority if over 10,000lbs, insurances, tax, etc.)
Working with a 3rd Party Courier:
Options of either a full serviced business or individual contract driver.
Takes care of all logistics, confirmation of pick-up/drop-off (pictures & scanners), driver verification & vetting, contact with driver & managers for clear communication, and takes the burden of you.
Liability for your cargo & any potential issues on the road is on the driver or firm. (clear agreements in place for accountability)
Depending on who it is can put temporary logos to promote your business on the go (We do.. just sayin..)
Cost is more or less, just depends on the contractor or firm.
The courier/delivery company should integrate as if they have always been on your team.
Must be willing to work with another business but know you can terminate if services are unable to fulfill properly.
Final Thoughts: Just know you will have to determine what is best for you, your current capabilities, and what your goals are. I'm not here to push you to one way or the other but if your at a position to expand or need assistance I hope to work with you.
